ABOUT Jim Odmark: founder and owner of JSO Guitarworks. Jim has been an amateur musician for most of his adult life. Whether involved in singing or playing an instrument, his love for music has been a constant. He has also had an on-going love for woodworking. Much of the joy he finds in working with his hands can be attributed to his father’s influence. His father was a true craftsman. That interest and background led Jim to the point of adding the word “Luthier” to his vocabulary and seeking to acquire skills to become one. His “journey” in learning started in the late ‘90s with the making of his first acoustic guitar. The wood (beautiful in itself), when fashioned into an instrument, produced beautiful sounds! What a delight! That experience turned an interest into a passion. Jim's skills in instrument repair grew during time spent at the Atlanta Guitar Works studying under Tim Joy, Gary Moore and Brian Malone. Their holistic approach to building AND repair enlarged Jim's perspective. He gained an understanding of the key elements that influence playability, a strong foundation for both building and repair. Jim approaches each project as an opportunity to express God's gift of creativity in a way that delights the client. He is on a life-long journey learning and exploring the wonders of wood, sound, and music. His shop is located in up-state NY just outside of Rochester in the town of Churchville. You are invited to contact him (jim@jsoguitarworks.com) to find out more about JSO Guitarworks and discuss how he might be of service to you.
